微观微观
美国学者巴纳斯（Bala. H. Banazhy）称线性系统方法模型为微观教学设计，它们的特点是：机械地使用系统工程的方法，预先确定行为目标，在确定的有限范围内运行，呈现出稳定性等等。在研究了微观设计的特点后，巴纳斯提出了宏观教学设计论。它的出现也是近年来开放系统思维和软系统方法的产物。巴纳斯认为，教育是一个开放的人类活动系统，是一个系统复合体，它与教师、学生、环境、政治、文化背景、国情等有着千丝万缕的联系。这种联系不是简单线性的、稳定的，必须对教育本身建立一种动态的、非线性的、综合的、整体的思维模型。宏观教学设计与微观教学设计的根本区别在于：后者立足于对已有系统进行分析、诊断和矫正；前者立足于更大系统的需求与条件，用系统与环境模型、结构与功能模型、过程与行动模型对未来系统作系统表征（综合描述）。宏观教学设计论的系统方法模型强调非线性和动态性，主要表现在：四个水平、四种系统环境和四种关系构成的三维设计框架8；设计过程是反复的和螺旋式的，并与反馈和前馈相互联系9；分化—整和存在于教学设计过程始终10；对系统中各个层次间的相互作用，强调协调与综合11；设计者、教师、教学对象和其他与系统设计有关的人员应共同参与到设计过程中来12。
